The National Monuments Service's description
On slightly higher ground above the flat landscape of the River Shannon floodplain at 8m OD. An isolated Late Bronze Age cremation burial was discovered in advance of construction on the Limerick Southern Ring road at Clonmacken Roundabout (Taylor and Ruttle 2010).
A circular pit (dims. 0.34m L x 0.06m D) was discovered filled with cremated bone (probably human) and charcoal. A struck chert flake and a large piece of quartz crystal were recovered from the burial. The site has been fully excavated. A carbon date was established for the site from carbonised hazel retrieved from the fill (UBA13269), this yielded a calibrated date of between 895-797BC (2 sigma 95.4%).
