The National Monuments Service's description
On gently sloping ground 300m SW of the Groody River, located 120m E of an excavated site (LI005-103----) and 80m N of a second excavated site (LI005-104----). The site was discovered prior to building within a road corridor and was completely excavated (Cummins 2004). It consisted of a simple pit cut into boulder clay (0.76m N-S, 0.6m E- W and 0.2m D). The subsoil around the pit was heavily oxidised suggesting in situ burning. The fill in the pit contained burnt stones and small fragments of iron slag. This suggested to the excavator that the feature is related to historic iron working. The excavator suggested a similar date to a site excavated close by in Crabbsland townland (LI005-081----) dating from the 11th /12th century AD.
