The National Monuments Service's description

The fabric of Carstown Castle was reputedly incorporated in outbuildings of Carstown House (Leslie 1908, 57; Tempest 1943, 221), but this cannot be confirmed. Two armorial plaques (LH021-046003- and LH021-046004-) dated 1612 remain in their original positions in the core of seventeenth-century house (See also LH021-046002-).

The above description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
