The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

Situated on the summit of a long, narrow E-W ridge. Ring-barrow (overall diam. 33m) comprising a level, circular platform (diam. 16m, H 0.6m above base of fosse) enclosed by a fosse (Wth 2.8-3.4m) and external bank (Wth 4.5-7m, H 1.3m above base of fosse). The bank is incorporated in the modern field fence on the N and the fosse is recut at this point. The site is recorded as a 'fort' in 1836 in the OS Letters (CLAJ 1918, 273).
