The National Monuments Service's description

There is a local tradition of a castle close to the modern church (Anon. 1923, 203). Leslie (1908, 114) quotes from an inquisition held in Ardee in 1547 which states that Stabannan Demesne had a castle and one messuage with 6s. 8d per annum. It may be same as (LH015-016----).

The above description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
