The National Monuments Service's description
The site of a castle built c. 1570 by Lawrence Clinton and demolished in the early twentieth century (Leslie 1911, 403; Anon. 1923, 201). A substantial roofed tower is depicted at Dowdstown (61) in Mapperstowne parish on the Down Survey (1656-8) barony map, for which see this web-page accessed on 5 May, 2016 http://downsurvey.tcd.ie/down-survey-maps.php#bm=Atherdee&c=Louth There is no knowledge of where this might have been located.
