The National Monuments Service's description
Monastic site with the remains of a round tower (LH012-046003-), church and high cross (LH012-046004-). All that remains of the church is the E gable which has a fifteenth - or sixteenth century window inserted into the blocked-up area of an earlier one. The later window, constructed of grey sandstone, has a pair of cusped ogee-headed lights and square hood moulding over. The remains of the early window, probably late twelfth- or early thirteenth-century, can be clearly seen in both facades; it had three lights with pointed two centred arches constructed of moulded grey and red sandstone. Similar stonework with moulding and diagonal tooling can be seen amongst the quoins in the NE angle which has obviously been rebuilt, probably at the same time as the later window. (CLAJ 1942, 101-3; Stubbs 1897, 102-10; Macalister 1946, 56; Henry 1933, 126, figs 93 and 95; Roe 1954, 113-4; Buckley and Sweetman, 225-7)
This is a National Monument, in state ownership: No. 92.
