The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

Situated at the upper edge of a NW-SE cliff face. D-shaped area (int. dims. 52m NW-SE, 38m NE-SW) enclosed by earthen bank (Wth 8m, H 0.9m internally, 3.2m externally) with traces of external fosse (Wth 2m, D 0.4m), except along NW to SE side where site is truncated by cliff. Entrance gap (Wth 2m) and causeway at SE. Possible souterrain (LH003-001002-) in interior, to W of centre, leading to the upper edge of the cliff.
