The National Monuments Service's description

Associated with a 17th-century house (LF022-072----) and bawn (LF022-072002-).
In 1682 Nicholas Dowdall noted that 'Sir Connell Ferrall Knight hath wrought much improvement … by Inclosures Orchds Gardens &c' (Gillespie and Moran 1991, 211) to his house in Tirlickeen. Mason (1819, vol. 3, 340) recorded that 'traces of the old garden and orchard remain near the ruins of the old mansion-house of Tirlicken'. The orchards and gardens have not been precisely located but the trapezoidal walled area depicted to the N of the bawn on the 1836 edition of the OS 6-inch map may be one of them. Only the W wall (L 44m; H 0.6m; wall T 0.7m) now survives. The construction of this wall and its thickness suggest that it is contemporary with the 17th-century bawn.
