The National Monuments Service's description
This is possibly the togher (L 20m; Wth 4.1m; D 0.13m) traced by Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (UCD) in 1991 and numbered DIF 0019 (Moloney et al. 1993, 105). It was orientated E-W and was composed of transverse and longitudinal roundwood (diam. 0.1m max.) and brushwood (diam. 0.035-0.06m). The main species noted were ash, oak and hazel and toolmarks were present. When inspected in 1999 (Dunne), it comprised a compact band (exposed Wth 1.6m; T 0.2m max.) of fifteen to twenty longitudinal medium-to-large pieces of brushwood exposed close to the bottom of an ESE drain face. The elements extended at an acute angle into the section face. Further roundwood and brushwood evident in an adjacent drain, 19m to ENE, were possibly part of this togher.
