Situated on a gentle NE facing slope in pasture, close to the centre of Inchenagh Island in Lough Ree. Depicted as an irregular, tree-covered enclosure on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. On the OS Fair Plan the minor name 'Caltragh' is written (in Italic font) just S of this enclosure and immediately above the name 'Fort' (in antiquarian font) beside the remains of the ringfort (LF021-002----). The placename 'Caltragh' (from the Irish 'An Chealtrach') is sometimes used to denote a burial ground. In this instance it is impossible to state which monument is being referenced or, indeed, if the name is being used as an area name in the same manner as it is found as a townland name in counties Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo. The name was not included on the engraved OS 1st ed. map. The enclosure is represented as a clump of scrub on the OS 25-inch plan (surveyed 1911). On inspection in 1998 it was found to contain the ruins of a late 18th/early19th century dwelling overgrown with scrub. It would appear that the enclosure, of which there were no extant upstanding remains, probably represented a garden.
