The National Monuments Service's description
This site was located in the industrial peatlands of Lough Bannow Bog. It was recorded in the 2013 Re-assessment Peatland Survey as a roundwood and brushwood togher, located on the field surface near the drain edge, and was traced for a length of 2.9m(Whitaker 2014).
A single cutting was opened and excavated under licence 15E0210. The site was situated in poorly humified Sphagnum peat with sedge and root inclusions. It was dated cal. 2456-2137 BC (UBA 26645). The excavated site (W0.81-1.9m) was orientated ENE-WSW. It was composed of machine-damaged longitudinally-laid ash, alder and willow roundwood and birch brushwood elements with transverse supports and two shallow pegs. All elements were fractured along their lengths and were in poor condition. Only three elements had toolmarked ends consisting of two wedge and a chisel point. The facets were flat to slightly concave. There were several root bowls within the cutting along the margins of the site.
