The National Monuments Service's description

In 1620 Thomas Nugent of Coolamber, county Westmeath received a land grant that included the townland of 'Freaghmeene. 82a arable and pasture and 32a wood and bog, with a water-mill' (Cal. pat. rolls Ire., Jas I, 499). In 1663 Nugent was seized of a 'cornmill in Friaghmine' (Ainsworth and MacLysaght 1958, 151). The precise location of the mill has not been identified. The corn mill depicted on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, bordering county Westmeath, may have been built on or close to its site.
