The National Monuments Service's description
Associated with the 17th-century settlement of St Johnstown (LF009-023----). The 1641 depositions record that the 'Tanner', 'George Tayler of St Johnstowne' was attacked by Irish rebels and lost ownership of 'his Tannhouse & his stock of hides, and Barke worth £100' (TCD, MS 817, fol. 170r). The precise location of the tannery has not been identified.
