Situated on low-lying ground between the SW corner of Gortconnellan Lough c. 250m to N and an E-W section of the river Shannon c. 300m to S, and on the line of the N4. Archaeological excavation (94E0158) in advance of roadworks uncovered an irregularly shaped trough (dims 1.6m x 1.1m; D 0.25-0.3m) filled with an organic peat and broken and burnt sandstone. There was a hearth immediately to the NE. (Opie 1994, 1995c)
