The National Monuments Service's description
According to tradition, there was formerly an old church where the present church is now situated (O'Flanagan 1933, vol. 1, 40). A church is mentioned here in the Ecclesiastical Taxation of 1302-6 (Lawlor 1908, 178). Situated in gently undulating countryside. No visible surface remains. Nineteenth century church on site.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
