In undulating countryside, Clonburren Castle (LA033-011001-) located 460m to the S. Not marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map. The arc of a curving field boundary (diam. c. 54.2m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 2.4m; int. H c. 0.8m, ext. H c. 1.1m) that is only visible as a curving field boundary from NW-N to NE only. No visible remains of any enclosing element from NE-E-S-W-NW. No evidence of any enclosing feature can be seen on aerial photographs. See attached aerial photograph taken from Bing Maps which shows curving field forming N boundary of roughly-circular shaped area (diam. c. 90m). This aerial photograph shows no enclosing element or any evidence of a cropmark forming a circular enclosure on the S side of possible enclosure. No antiquity is shown at this location on the 1838 ed. OS 6-inch map. The curving field boundary is depicted as a field boundary and not as an antiquity on the current ed. OS 6-inch map. This curving field boundary was identified as a possible enclosure based on examination of Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI S. 40/39) aerial photograph taken June 1973. On this map the curving field boundary was identified as upstanding from S-W-N to NE. The curving portion of the enclosure visible on this photograph from S-W-NW is formed by a stream marking the townland boundary between Cappalinnan and Clonburren (Moore).
