The National Monuments Service's description
Unlocated well within townland that is described by D O'Byrne in his History of the Queens County as 'Near to this cemetery (Arles) is a well called Taaffe's well, situate near to the site of an old castle, once inhabited by a respectable family named Taaffe. Tradition tells us that Ms Taaffe died in the castle, and that her ghost appeared at the well' (O'Byrne 1856, 35).
