The National Monuments Service's description

Unlocated castle within townland that is described by O'Byrne as 'Near to this cemetery (Arles) is a well called Taaffe's well (LA032-025002-), situate near to the site of an old castle, once inhabited by a respectable family named Taaffe. Tradition tells us that Ms Taaffe died in the castle, and that her ghost appeared at the well' (O'Byrne 1856, 35).
