The National Monuments Service's description
Reference to Burial Gd. here (O'Flanagan, 1933, 20, 23, 24). Situated in an elevated area with excellent views to S and E. Low earthen mound (H. c. 1.5m, D. c. 28m). Northern section destroyed. No grave markers visible.
Described by Dowling as 'The graveyard of Kilmuilfoyle is about half a mile from Dairy Hill Church site. The headstones are all rude and uninscribed and no interments have been made here since 1835. The name is a corruption of Kyle Maol Foyle which accurately represents the original name i.e. Cill Maol Foil, The Church of St. Maolpoil' (Dowling 1981, 16).
Archaeological monitoring by Dominic Delany was carried out in 20002 under licence number 02E1663.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
