The National Monuments Service's description

Rectangular shaped graveyard (int. dims. 27m N-S; 38m E-W) enclosed by a post-medieval stone wall as indicated on current ed OS 6-inch map. Timogue Church of Ireland church (LA019-007001-) stands in centre of graveyard. Entrance gateway in centre of W wall of graveyard, modern graveyard extension to E of church and graveyard. No evidence of any pre-1700 memorials in graveyard. The S quadrant of the graveyard appears to have had their memorials removed as there are no upstanding headstones in this sector of the graveyard. This is in stark contrast with the description of the graveyard given in 1907 when it was recorded that the place 'was important in former time may be inferred from the veneration attaching to its burial-place, and the crowded state of its inclosure, the graves rising nearly to a level with the windows of the Protestant Church, and considerably elevated above its flooring' (O'Hanlon and O'Leary 1907, 338).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
