Unlocated settlement within townland, mentioned as the 'towne and lands of Ballycarroll alias Bally-kerrold' in an inquisition of the lands of Robert Pigott of the Disarte in Queen's Co. taken at Maryborough on the 7th September 1607, who received these lands in the 19th year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth (1577).(O'Flanagan 1933, vol.1, p. 97)
