Stone circle

The National Monuments Service's description

Unlocated stone circle within townland, photographs of the stone circle were taken by Helen Roe and now deposited in the County library in Portaloise. Described by Roe as a group of standing stones which seems to represent the remains of a stone circle, with an outlying stone. This group of stones is not recorded on OS 6-inch maps, nor have I been able to trace any notice of it in local histories etc. The remains consist of four rather small upright, standing stones, the highest of which projects 34 inches over ground, together with two others that considerably lower, viz. 18 inches and 13 inches, the whole forming a curve. There is a low squarish rock, rising 15 and a half inches over the ground at a distance of about 60 feet from this curve. These stones look like the remains of a circle and under the grass in the approximate centre, there is a slab of rock, which I was unable to uncover sufficiently to decide whether it were outcrop or a slab placed in position. There is a stream flowing close to these stones in which there are several slabs of outcrop (H. Roe, A record of archaeological discovery, p. 9).
