The National Monuments Service's description
Occupied by the O'Connors in 1641 and by the Calcutt family in 1775. Fell into ruin shortly afterwards (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 150). Remains consist of S wall (L c. 8.2m; Wth c. 1.7m) and W wall (L c. 9m), two storeys high, built of rubble limestone. Fragment of an ope at NW. Possible evidence of bawn (LA010-006003-) at W.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
