The National Monuments Service's description
New monument discovered in 2003 during excavations of the M7 Heath-Mayfield motorway scheme by Jonathan Dempsey of Archaeological Consultancy Services Ltd under licence number 03E1048. This site was located in an area of deep fill and was protected and reburied and preserved in situ. Described as Cappakeel 2 this site consisted of a charcoal-manufacturing kiln that was subrectangular with rounded corners, measuring 0.96m E-W by 0.8m by 0.1m deep, with a flat base. The possible hearth was also subrectangular and measured 0.72m N-S by 0.5m by 0.4m deep (Bennett 2006, 283).
