The National Monuments Service's description

The Annals of the Four Masters records that in 1547 the forces of Sir Anthony St. Leger, the Lord Chief Justice, built a fortification in Leix around Badhun-Riaganach 'where he left wardens to oppose O'Connor and O'More'. Unlocated fortification within townland of either Bockagh, Brish or Baunreagh. Baun Regan is marked on old Map of Leix and Offaly as near the source of the Barrow. These townlands are also located on sheet 11.
