The National Monuments Service's description

In a low-lying area. Little evidence of church except for a featureless wall fragment (dims. c. 4m E-W; 1.5m N-S) at W side of graveyard (LA005-007001-). Wall foundations visible to E of centre of the graveyard with no obvious pattern. The churchyard of Old Lea lies 380m to the south-east of the thirteeenth century Lea castle (LA005-006-). In 1809 the church at New Lea was built and this site was abandoned.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
