Hut site

The National Monuments Service's description

Excavated in 2010 in advance of the N9/N10 Waterford to Powerstown road scheme (Licence no. 3008). The northern portion (2.6m NE-SW; 1.2m NW-SE) of a foundation trench (Wth 0.2m; D 0.1m) subcircular in plan and truncated by a NE-SW field boundary. The shallow nature of the foundation would suggest that the hut was of light construction, possibly a wicker structure. Hazel charcoal from the fill of the trench returned a radiocarbon date of 974-836 cal BC (UBA-13486). A small pit was located directly N of the trench and may have been a refuse pit.
