The National Monuments Service's description
Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 292-3) mentions several castles in Callan, though these are difficult to precisely locate. According to Carrigan (ibid. 293), ‘a third stood about midway between the Town Hall and the Bank’. Farrelly et al. (1993, vol. 1, 114-15; vol. 2, map 7:1) indicate a possible location for this castle on the E side of Green Street, however, based on Carrigan’s description the location should be further S where the houses are slightly more set back from the road. The largest building on this stretch of streetscape is the three-storey AIB bank, the other buildings being two-storey properties. The precise location of this castle mentioned by Carrigan is unknown.
