The National Monuments Service's description
Not indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of Gowran (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin) but indicated as a ruined castle on the Down Survey (1655-6) parish map of Ullard (ibid.). The terrier accompanying the parish map states, 'There is upon Ullard the remains of a ruined Church [KK025-038001-] & the Stumpe of a Decayed Castle', with Sir Edward Butler listed as the proprietor in 1640 (ibid.). While the castle depicted as adjacent to/overlooking the River Barrow, the precise location of the castle within the eastern portion of the townland is unknown.
