Ring-ditch

The National Monuments Service's description

On the S side of a U-shaped E-W valley adjacent to a tributary that joins the King’s River at the village of Ennisnag. Excavated in 2007 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme (Licence no. E3617). An annular ring-ditch (ext. diam. c. 8m; int. D 5.8m), slightly straighter at SW and NW, with hazelnut shells in its lower fill and small fragments of cremated bone in its upper fill. A small pit to the E of the ring-ditch contained a large amount of calcinated and fragmented bone. The ring-ditch truncated a pit at SE (KK023-159----). A sample of charred hazelnut from the ring-ditch yielded a radiocarbon date of 503-384 cal BC (UBA-10999). (Jennings 2010, 245, 920; Jennings and Coughlan 2012)
