The National Monuments Service's description
An antiquarian record describes, 'a bronze spearhead together with a stone hatchet, and bronze celt, which had all been found in the neighbourhood of Greenvale, near Kilkenny, the residence of the late Lewis C. Kinchela, Esq. The first named antique bore attached, in that gentleman's handwriting, a memorandum to the following effect- "This spearhead was, in 1814, got fast in a human skull, which was found with many other human bones, when taking down the hill which was at the back of my garden wall on the road to Kilkenny - the skull soon mouldered away - L.C.K."' (Anon. 1949-51, 30). Greenvale House is indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6 inch map and on the 1945-6 revision, though it is only named on the 25-inch OS map. The precise location of these burials is unknown but they appear to have been close to Greenvale House and the public road.
