The National Monuments Service's description

Originally from the early medieval monastery at Monaincha (TN018-001010-), Co. Tipperary. Currently in the OPW store, Kilkenny (Kilkenny depot stone carving number: KD023). Described by Harbison (1992, vol. 1, 139 (Cat. No. 173); vol. 2 fig. 471) as, 'the fragment of a head from a possible high cross that was stored in the National Museum of Ireland and which he described from a photograph taken by the Museum as a thin cross fragment from Monaincha, which represents the top of the head of a cross, together with a small fragment of the ring. The head has two raised mouldings indicating the outline of a cross within the head, while the broad ring has a raised undecorated panel. The other side is undecorated except for a grooved line. The fragment is said to have been brought back to Monaincha from the Museum, but there is no trace of it there now'.
This sandstone fragment (H 0.28m; Wth 0.23m; T 0.045m) is only decorated on one surface. The arm of the cross is 0.22m high and the ring is 0.12m wide.
