Wall monument

The National Monuments Service's description

At St Mary's parish church (KK019-026115-) in Kilkenny. Two, now separate, sections of a mural monument commemorating Jacob Archdeacon (d. 1636) and Catherine Woodlocke (Carrigan 1905, vol. 3, 94; Cockerham 2009, 358).
Originally comprised of a rectangular inscribed slab below a triangular armorial plaque, both composed of fossiliferous limestone. The rectangular panel has raised edges and a Latin inscription in false relief Roman capitals:
JACOB’ ARCHDEACON MERCATOR ET HVIVS VRBIS KILKENIENSIS BVRGENSIS. HOC, SIBI ET VXORI
CATHERINAE WOODLOCKE
ET POSTERIS SVIS, VIVVS MONVMENTVM POSVIT.
FATO CESSIT ILLE [ ] OBIJT HAEC [ ]
ANNO [ ] DIE [ ] MENSIS [ ] ANNO [ ] DIE [ ] MENSIS [ ]
EPITAPHIVM.
HAEC MIHI QVA CONDAR FERALIS CONDITVR VRNA
ET TIBI QVEM PARILI SORTE SEPVLCHRA MANENT.
QVISQVIS ES EXTINCTOS VERMIS PRAEDABITVR ARTVS
ET QVAE ME PRIMVM, TE QVOQ.. FATA PREMENT.
VT RECTE VIVAS, MORTIS MEMOR ESTO, SEPVLTVS.
STERNVM VT POSSIS VIVERE DISCE MORI. 1636
The upper tier has the armorial shield surrounded by foliage. It shows the initials IA on the right side and KW on the left the motto below reads:
DEVS PROVIDEBIT
God will take care" [of us]
The monument was placed in the N transept of the ‘Monuments Room’ wall c. 1960. It was removed from this wall in 2015 and is now placed against the E wall in the N transept.
