The National Monuments Service's description
Possible early medieval church identified in geophysical surveys (04R026) 10m E of the round tower (KK019-026175-) at St Canice's Cathedral (KK019-026029-) (Ó Drisceoil 2004, 80-106). A large rectangular NE-SW orientated stone building (dims c. 30m E-W x 10m N-S) indicated by the geophysics has been suggested as the possible predecessor of the present 13th-century cathedral church rather than another building (KK019-026263-) whose foundations were uncovered in the 19th century during restoration works at the cathedral (Graves and Prim 1857, 65; Ó Drisceoil 2004, 86-7).
