The National Monuments Service's description
Medieval pits to rear of 26-9 John Street upper, 40m outside (NW of) the site of St John's Gate and within a suburb of the medieval town that developed in the 13th century. Test excavations in advance of development of the existing 'Kilford Arms' hotel development by Ken Hanley (00E0711) revealed two pits, furrow cuts and a possible fosse, all of which produced Kilkenny-type 13th/14th-century medieval pottery (Hanley 2000, unpublished; 2002, 179; 2002, 179-80).
