The National Monuments Service's description

According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 446), 'a church and a village, both now obliterated, stood here in former times. The site is pointed out in a field broken up with mounds and trenches'. Writing about Mountgale townland, O'Kelly (1969, 9) notes that, 'Old house foundations were uncovered by an excavator in Dunphy's land in 1955, probably the old village site'. The precise location of this settlement within the townland is unknown.
