The National Monuments Service's description
A large two-storey gabled house with a chimney is indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of 'Cranagh', W of the castle (KK018-035001-) of 'Oldtowne' (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin). The house is also indicated on the Down Survey parish map of 'Tulleroane', though stylistically the depiction is that of a much simpler house (ibid.). Another house (KK018-035003-) is also shown on the parish map S of the castle (ibid.). The terrier accompanying the parish map lists 'John Grace protest[ant]' as the proprietor of 'Ouldtowne' in 1640and states that the land was 'unforfeited', which implies that the landowner had not sided with the rebels in the 1641 Rising (ibid.). The precise location of the house within the general area W of the castle in Oldtown townland is unknown.
