The Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of Crannagh (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin)depicts within 'Garrigeene' townland a house with an adjoining tower house while, at roughly the same location, the parish map of 'Bannogh alias Bannonough’ (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin) depicts a large house with a chimney in 'Carrigeene'. The accompanying terrier to the parish map notes 'a House at Carrygeene and some Cabbins' and lists the proprietor in 1640 as John Rochford, Irish Papist. The precise location of this house within Carrigeen townland is unknown.
