The National Monuments Service's description
Within the medieval church (KK013-032001-) of Tubbrid Upper. In 1888 Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 370) noted a graveslab in the chancel which he describes as, 'a thirteenth century coffin-shaped floor-slab, then almost perfect; it was 6ft. [c. 1.83m] long, 2ft. 2in. [0.66m] wide at the top, and about 12in. [0.31m] wide at the end, and had an inscription in Lombardic characters'. During a re-visit in 1896 the slab was found to have been 'broken into several pieces which lay scattered all round' (ibid.). However, having gathered the fragments Carrigan (ibid.) transcribed the inscription as, '[HI JAC]ET WENN HANE-O-HV!!I...A...[C]VIVS ANIM[E] PROPICIETVR [DEVS]' and translated it as, 'Here lies Wennhane O'Hullichan, on whose soul may God have mercy'. While the graveslab was not noted during a field visited in 1987, it is likely that the pieces are still present within the church and graveyard (KK013-032002-) .
