The National Monuments Service's description
Excavated in 2006 in advance of the M8/N8 Cullahill to Cashel Road Improvement Scheme (Excavation licence no. E2394, Area 2, Site A). A mound (12.85m E-W; 11.6m N-S; D 0.42m) composed of several layers of dark sandy silt that contained large amounts of charcoal and heat-shattered stone. Three troughs lay beneath the mound. Trough A (L 1.65m; Wth 1.51m; D 0.12m) was subrectangular with vertical sides and a flat base and there were three stake-holes (one at N one at SW and one at S). Trough B (L1.66m; Wth 1.12m; D 0.14m) was subrectangular with sloping sides and an irregular base. Trough C (L 2.65m; Wth 1.2-2m; D 0.19m) was subcircular with straight sides and a flat base. A sample of charcoal from Trough C returned a radiocarbon date of 830-590 cal BC (Poz-26543). Another fulacht fia (KK008-173----) lies c. 20m to the SW.
