The National Monuments Service's description
Two small post-holes (diam. 0.25m; 0.5m apart) were found during test-trenching carried out along a stretch of the proposed N8 road improvement scheme from Cullahill, Co. Laois, to Cashel, Co. Tipperary. A half-section through the eastern and more regular post-hole revealed a depth of around 0.2m filled with a yellow/grey silt and tightly packed small stones which became less frequent towards the base. Patches of orange/brown clay were present towards the base of the fill (Phelan 2008, 193, no. 790). Further investigation was carried out in October 2006 in advance of the construction of the M8/N8 Cullahill to Cashel road improvement scheme. An area of 400m2 was opened, but no additional archaeological features were recorded. (Hardy 2008; 2009, 262, no. 1024)
