The National Monuments Service's description
Overlooking the River Goul, on the SE edge of a terrace running NE-SW roughly parallel to the river, which is located in the flood plain c. 5m below and c. 100m to the E, in pasture. There are good views in all directions, particularly from S-W. In the Ordnance Survey Letters (1839) it is described as 'a moat' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 114 (39)). A small flat-topped mound (top diam. 8.8m N-S; 5.8m E-W; base diam. 17m N-S; 16.1m E-W; H 1.5m) with a few hawthorn trees growing on it. Some stone protrudes from the side of the mound.
