The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture, close to the edge of a terrace on a S-facing slope, overlooking the valley of the Glantrasna River. An elevated circular area (25m N-S; 24.5m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.2m; int. H 1.7m; ext. H 4.55m) which is faced internally by a stone wall (H 1.7m). There is an entrance (Wth 4m) with a downsloping ramp at E. Trees occur on the external sloping face of the bank. According to local information, an intervening fosse and outer bank existed here until recent times. This rath is indicated as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) and named 'Pound' on the 1846 OS 6-inch map. A second rath (KE109-008001-) lies c. 100m to the W, on the opposite side of a tributary to the Glantrasna River.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
