The National Monuments Service's description

The CKFC recorded the destruction of a 'splendid cist' at this location which measured 10 feet (3.1m) in diameter and had a slate floor (1939). Sherds of pottery found within it were smashed, as were the 'presumably human remains'. A passage was recorded beneath the floor of the cist. The site may be a souterrain.

The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1468. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
