The National Monuments Service's description
Internal diam. 16.8m N-S, 18.6m E-W
The outline of this caher, depicted as circular on the first edition of the OS map, was altered to the irregular shape shown on the second edition as a result of the outward collapse of its enclosing wall. The site is located in gently sloping pasture overlooking the Finglas river to E. The enclosing wall consists of a rubble core faced internally and externally with drystone masonry which is visible only intermittently beneath the collapse. It has an external height of .9m and does not rise appreciably above the level of the stony interior. It averages 3.5m wide and features a possible entrance at E, 1.15m wide, which is defined on both sides by upright slabs. The interior of the caher is bisected by a N-S field boundary. In the W sector is a drystone-lined circular depression (KE098-046001-), 2.6m in diameter, of uncertain significance.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 557. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
