The National Monuments Service's description
This boulder-burial and standing stone are located on the lower NNE slopes of Canuig mountain, at the head of the valley of the Ballinskelligs river. They are situated in pasture, on a fairly level terrace, and command a view of Ballinskelligs Bay. The wedge tomb at Coom (KE097-021----) is visible to ESE. The boulder-burial consists of a flat slab supported on four low stones. Two of these stones, those on the upslope side, are largely obscured by hillwashed material. The other two measure .48m x .38m x .15m and .52m x .47m x .13m. A pad-stone rests on the support stone at ESE, and measures .3m x .25m x .1m. Seven solution pits occur on the smooth upper surface of the cover-stone, whose longer axis lies NNE-SSW. The stone is raised approximately .15m above internal ground level, and its maximum dimensions are 1.97m x 1.57m. It averages .4m thick (Ó Nualláin 1978, 97).
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 379. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
