The National Monuments Service's description
According to McCarthy (1993, 16), the 'old Carew m.s.s. map' entitled 'Glanaroght in A.D. 1600' shows a church at Caher. On that map the townland is named 'Carregoran' and the church is shown as roofless. The precise location of this church is not known. McCarthy (ibid.) suggests that the church may have been in the vicinity of a holy well (KE093-122----), which also remains unlocated, in the same townland.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
