The National Monuments Service's description

In rough pasture, on a NW-facing slope overlooking the estuary of the Finnihy River. The burial ground (c. 50m NW-SE; c. 40m SW-NE) is enclosed by a drystone wall at SW and traces of a curving earthen bank SW-NE; elsewhere it is defined by uneven ground and overgrowth. Graves are marked by low uninscribed headstones (H 0.2-0.4m), usually with accompanying footstones. Several low unmarked mounds were also noted. In the NW half of the interior, a strip of ground (Wth c.15m) slopes steeply down to the riverbank and here the graves are shaded by coniferous trees. Elsewhere the ground is uneven and densely overgrown with bushes and ferns. The burial ground is named 'Killeen Burial Gd.' on the 1846 OS 6-inch map and indicated as a rectangular area enclosed by a field boundary on the SW side and by a broken line on the other three sides with the NW side curving slightly.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
