The National Monuments Service's description
This site is noted in the OSNB as 'a burial place for children only' (Templeno, 19), and was no longer in use by the late nineteenth century. It survives as a rectangular platform, located on a slight eminence on the E side of the Blackwater river. It measures 8.6m N-S x 17.2m E-W and its surface is densely cluttered with N-S rows of upright, uninscribed grave-markers. These slabs average .55m high. Small piles of stone, including quartz, are evident throughout the site.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1015. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
